In 1953 David van Buuren bought the version on wood of " The Fall of Icarus ", by P.Bruegel the Elder. (The version on canvas belongs to the Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Brussels), and was authenticated by greatest experts of the time. Scientific research has greatly improved and 45 years later, a dendochronologic analysis set the date at 1583. F. Lechien-Durant, curator of the museum, is studying with other specialists the underlying drawing in order to assign the work to P. Breughel II. Both versions would be copies of an original now lost. This picture is based on Ovid's myth and serves as a pretext For a shimmering impressionnist Landscape.
