| The
van Buuren collection, made between 1913 and 1954, is remarkable
for its quality and its eclectism : French and Belgian contemporary
painters, and artists of the Paris exhibition of 1925. Van Buuren
was well acquainted with Foujita, a Japanese painter born in Tokyo
but very impressed by the western pictorial tradition, and who had
close contacts with Flemish painters. Signac, G. Braque and M. Ernst
also were part of the same circle.

| Paul
Signac, " Vase of Flowers ", watercolour, 1918. The blue-tinted
vase reflects the light with a Japanese style, similar to paintings
of J. Ensor. Alice was passionately interested in the flowers of
her garden and influenced her husband in the choice of flowers painting.
